HARUKO WATANABE

A Grand Master of Seiha Hôgaku Kai, Ikuta School, Haruko graduated from Ehime University, Faculty of Literature.

  Haruko is active in a wide range of music performance beyond the Japanese music genre and has appeared all Japan since 1989. In 2001, Haruko had joint recitals and salon concerts with Kôhachirô MIYATA (shakuhachi), Kenji Yamashita (western flute) and Sachiko Miyakoshi (koto) in five cities in Japan. She performed "Landscapes with a Bridge" composed for koto and string instruments with German Henschel Quartet in Japan. She also has performed in the Government Music Department in Zhejiang and Zhejiang University of Arts in China as well as performing with other local Chinese players.  

She is currently the director of a koto ensemble Aya no Kai and teaches koto at Uwajima Senior High School. She is also the head of the Ensemble Nipponia, Ehime Branch. Haruko toured Australia in early 2003 with shakuhachi player Andrew MacGregor.
