Yang energy is light and it flows throughout the universe. It is the “Feng” of Feng Shui. Yang energy is related to fire, wind and the breath. The playing of flutes was seen in ancient China as an important way of controlling and stabilising the breath, thus improving health and promoting longevity.
There is a saying ... “Cranes have a life of 1000 years” . This is because they make a high sound, like a trumpet. The windpipe of cranes is a long spiral which attracts and collects Yang energy. Sharp edges also attract Yang energy.
Yang is the heavenly energy which imparts vitality and it is necessary for this to be present in our houses. This Yang energy does not come directly from the sun, but reaches earth after being reflected by the stars. Stars could be described as highly compressed Yang energy.
Yin energy is the heavy Ki from below the ground which comes from the centre of the earth. Flowing underground, it is transmitted to spirits and dead bodies buried there. Yin energy also attracts dead spirits. In ancient China, people thought energy from their departed ancestors flowed into their houses to safeguard their health and prosperity. Yin energy increases the prospect of attracting money, and promotes success and happiness. On the other hand, because Yin energy attracts the spirit of the dead, people whose vitality or living energy is low may be overwhelmed by these spirits.
Yin energy is attracted to beating sounds, for example, wind chimes, bells, drums or mokugyo (wood fish-shaped drum). Drumming is used to call back the spirits. In temples and churches all over the world, bells are rung at funerals and it is the universal way to summon spirits of the departed.
Yang and Yin energy is needed for us to experience a healthy and happy life. It is beneficial to live in a house where those energies flow in a good balance.
